NBA All-Star Voting Oddities

Taking a look at the leading vote-getters for the NBA All-Star game I have seen only a few surprises and injustices.

The not so surprising:
  • Eastern Conference (Guards) -- Wade is still the leading vote-getter although he might be having the most disappointing season out of anyone in the NBA.
  • Eastern Conference (Centers) -- On the same note, Shaq is second despite being in the same boat as Wade. You can't dispute them being in the game because they have been and are obvious superstars but there is no way they deserve it over some of the other contenders.
But the real point of me writing this is below.

The shocking:
  • Western Conference (Centers) -- This is the biggest injustice for me. Erik Dampier is the third leading vote-getter. He is ahead of, most notably, Camby, Gasol and a personal favorite of mine LaMarcus Aldridge.
Who is voting for Dampier? Mark Cuban must be refreshing that NBA All-Star balloting page a mile-a-minute and must be undertaking a massive Vote Dampier campaign at the American Airlines Arena.

I just didn't see Dampier as being this popular to get the third most votes at his position while having a very mediocre season. And it is not like the Mavs are blowing people and teams away.
